Palm Oil - Persuasive Writing Challenge.
Did you know palm oil is the biggest reason for deforestation today? And we eat it almost every time we have an ice cream or a chocolate. Rainforests are cut or burned to plant massive plantations of palm oil that are then shipped overseas to big companies such as Nestle, Palmolive or Mannum. To stop so many creatures loosing their homes and dying out, a simple solution would be to check the label before you buy it. If everyone boycotted the brands that use palm oil, they would soon be forced to find another ingredient. And on another level, from the Orangutans and monkeys that lose their homes, we need those rainforests to offset global warming.

You are right Baxter. Consumer is king and if we can boycott those products that use palm oil, manufacturers will make a change. However, I was reading that more than half of the palm oil shipped into Europe is used for making biofuel. I expect that the people using this think they are doing the right thing by not using fossil fuels, when in fact this choice is resulting in a new kind of harm. I am so sorry that my generation has made such bad choices that will impact on your generation. It’s a good job that we have good people like you in the world.

Just so you know, I have been boycotting palm oil for years and it isn’t that hard to dink’s it? I am just so impressed with you blog and it has made for some interesting reading at 7 am this morning in Melbourne! I look forward to reading more of your wonderful adventures in the fire.
